RE: Kent State vs. Akron
I agree Muskrat. Their guards are good, but they don’t seem to have the assassin who can just simply take a game over.

I think Akron is the MACs best shot to win a game in the NCAA Tournament. But I predict that they won’t have that chance.

Was that in the stretch where the young man from Akron banked home the three ball?

I thought one big time positive was the play of Gio Santiago. I am convinced that should Kent make it to CLE he is going to be critical to any success the team has. He played like a senior last night. Tip of the cap.

Before the OU game Coach Senderoff made his feelings clear about what he expects from Gio whether he is banged up or not. I thought last nights performance speaks to his reaction. As always, no moral victories…but big picture last night….Kent State played hard.

No, I believe the play I'm talking about was a corner three from Dawson. The one you're thinking of I believe was a little earlier and it was Hunter. I remember that felt like it could've been the start of the end, then we cut it back down a little bit.

As for Gio I agree. I've thought him taking over as the Sr floor general is the key for a while. He keep having games where you think he might be starting that, then the next game he is relatively quiet.

As for Akron, I agree they're very good, but not one of the all time MAC teams. Of their starters 4 of them have been playing college basketball for 5 years. Most of that time together. The 5th is 23 years old and I believe could come back for another year. Their roster is basically "would be graduated" age if this was 5 years ago. So basically, they should be very good.

It was nice to see Gio contribute -we really need him. He was pretty bad in the OU game, it's hard to guess what sorts of nagging injuries he may have after 5 seasons. I see any number of kids fade in their senior year compered to earlier years, the wear and tear on the body must be tough. I know a surgeon who replaces valves in the veins of young men who played college basketball, the veins collapse from the pounding ones legs take. Collapsed valves means blood will pool in your feet.

True. I can think of a lot of KSU seniors over the years who struggled due to an accumulation of nagging injuries. While not a "collision" sport like football, basketball is harder on the body than those who never played organized basketball can imagine, especially the legs.

EMU beat BSU. That's big for us.

Agree on the KSU players and some from big time programs. I know of two friends who played college ball and had early hip replacement surgeries as well as knee problems.

Especially when Miami just took CMU to the woodshed.

This could go one of a few ways.

It will be a bit of an embarrassment to not make the tournament but losing to the number 1 seed isn’t a lot of fun either. If we win our last four I might change my mind but right now it’s a big ho hum.

I remember seeing Jerry Lucas when he got a bit older. It wasn’t pretty watching him get out of a chair.

Yeah, but KSU would have nothing to lose. If they lose to the #1 seed, it would just be as expected. But if the win - and that's certainly not impossible - it would be huge. In 1998 KSU had a similar team and knocked off Akron, East champion, in the first round, and that was on the Akron court. I'm not saying that winning wouldn't be a long shot, just that stranger things have happened.

True. Lucas hurt a knee in college, if not even earlier, and was never the same again. He was still great in the NBA but not as great as he could have been.

Freeman does not have a $100k NIL deal.
